BeTouched - a newsletter on Meridian Wellness (Issue #1 - April 2007)

Dearest Reader,

THE BIRTH OF MERIDIAN 101…

Welcome to the 1st issue of BeTouched newsletter! You have become part of Meridian 101’s history!

We at essentiallyMERIDIAN are so excited by the birth of Meridian 101 as well as BeTouched. We sincerely wish you would enjoy reading our newsletter, as much as we have enjoyed in putting it together. Expect many more information and stories to come in future issues!

So what is Meridian 101?  It is a D.I.Y. health routine for Everyone, and is driven by our passion and desire to help people to Feel Good, Look Great, Stay Healthy, and be drug-free.  Based upon over 2500 years of the Chinese ancestors’ wisdom in traditional chinese medicine (TCM), herbal medicinal knowledge, fused with modern western science in biotechnology and aromatherapy. Combined with simple-to-learn, and effective meridian acupressure and guasha massage, to relax, heal, and restore the balance in our body, mind and soul.

I personally has gained tremendously from applying what I have learnt in Meridian 101. Not just personal health, but also benefited my entire family including my children. The simple routine has strengthened our immunity system, and allow much less dependency on drugs and medication. By bringing Meridian 101 to a wider audience in the community and helping them to achieve health and happiness, is the kind of passion and satisfaction that is driving our team’s vision here in essentiallyMERIDIAN.

Allow me to touch on the brief concept of Qi, Meridian, and Acupressure.

Qi (vital life energy), permeates the whole universe; it is the activating force for all life. In the body, Qi flows in channels, called Meridians, and supplies energy to all the organs and body tissues, and the mind. By applying pressure to the meridians and specific points on them, it affects the flow of Qi so that it moves freely and evenly throughout the body. The distribution of Qi within your body has profound effects on all aspects of your well being – the emotional, intellectual, and spiritual, as well as the physical. Chinese medicine views all diseases as caused by imbalances and blockages in the flow of Qi.

STORY: MARGARET'S RELIEF FROM PMS

Here is an account of Margaret’s experience with regards to PMS...

I have been suffering from Pre/Post menstrual syndrome ever since I was 12. Two weeks before my menses, I would experience fever, headache, engorgement of breasts, tummy blot and mood swings - not just a mild one but a terrible one which I would avoid contact with anyone - family member or friend.

I also had to refrain from consuming spicy food. As an Indian, it was tough to completely do away with it and also from cooling stuffs like tea and citrus fruits. Worse still... Every month I suffered tremendous cramps, vomiting, diarrhea and fainting spell... 4-in-1 :(

So I started to take Panadol ever since then... and basically became a routine every month to take Panadol even after I started to work  as I had no choice, otherwise my work would be affected. Even a gynecologist I sought advice from said that it is very common among women to have cramps... and I was prescribed with a painkiller- Synflex. When I run out of Synflex, I switched back to Panadol. A few times I tried to test if I could do without pain killer... but no mercy for me :(

In addition, I also experience post menstrual syndrome after my menses which lasts for at least 2 to 3 days. So, just imagine how lousy I feel every month!!

Ya, life was like this until last December 2006. My good friend, Esther, who knew of my problem approached me to suggest trying out the Angelica Ardent herbal oil, which has Angelica, Rose and Evening Primrose essential oil as ingredients.  As it was made purely by herbs and because it was an external application I was quite prepared to try it.  I applied the oil in January 2007 for about 10 days before my menses and obediently followed her instructions to massage the oil onto my womb and kidney areas.  Surprisingly, except for slight discomfort, I actually did not suffer any pains that month!  I was very happy but I still kept my fingers crossed till I used the oil again for the next month. This time I only used it 5 days before and again no more pain. Wow, it was really a miracle I should say :) I did not face any pain or vomiting or diarrhea or dizziness or even mood swings before and after at all... Instead I felt very energized and the good thing is that I did not have to avoid tea and spicy food :)

Thank goodness to Esther ;) No more pain, no more tears."

Regards... Margaret

THE HEALING MAGIC IN A FLOWER

Xin-Yi belongs to the Magnolia family with a bitter taste. The earliest pharmacopoeia in Chinese history “ShenNong Book of Herbal Medicine” listed it as a precious medicine for curing cold, nasal congestion and protecting respiratory tract. Its flowers bud in early spring, and the best time to collect and extract essential oils from Magnolia is just before the bud blossom into flowers. Hence the precious value of it.

At the end of 1973, some ancient medicine and pharmacology books of Qin and Han dynasties were found at Ma-Wang-Dui in Hunan province, China. They were the earliest books on Chinese medicine and pharmacology. Also found at the site were nine kinds of plants and herbs, which have been well preserved, including Xin-Yi (Magnolia). This proves that back in the early days of Qin and Han dynasties, Xin-Yi was already a precious herb used by the royals for health maintenance.
